Lara Williams, an up and coming novelist, has received glowing praise for her debut, Supper Club, described as Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s Fleabag meets Nora Ephron’s Heartburn.
The book follows 29 year old Roberta, who sets up a secret society for hungry women who are sick of bad men, where revellers drink and feast until they're sick. With only a short story collection, Treats, under her belt, Williams’s debut novel was widely praised following its July release, with The Guardian including it in their Not The Booker Prize 2019 shortlist, deeming it a ‘feminist Fight Club’. Based in Manchester, Williams is also a freelance writer, contributing to The Independent, Times Literary Supplement, Vice and Dazed, and production company Dramatic Republic have optioned the TV rights to Supper Club.
